Dune
Among all modern science fiction, Dune is perhaps one of the few stories that feels less like a vision of the future and more like an echo of humanity's distant past. Beneath its interstellar politics lies an ancient question: what happens when civilizations built on conquest encounter cultures rooted in wisdom, tradition, and harmony with nature?
This painting was born from that question.
Rather than depicting characters from the film, Dune explores the timeless conflict between indigenous knowledge and imperial ambition. It is inspired by the dignity of desert cultures whose strength comes not from technology or wealth, but from their relationship with the land, their rituals, and the values they pass from one generation to the next. Opposing them is the recurring force of human history—greed, domination, and the illusion that progress is measured by possession rather than understanding.
At the centre of the composition stands a symbolic female figure. Her body is covered with ancient signs, suggesting that the human form itself is the first manuscript upon which culture, memory, and spirituality are written. She represents not an individual, but the collective wisdom carried through countless generations.
The luminous sphere at her womb is the painting's central symbol. It represents creation itself—the eternal source from which life, consciousness, and civilization emerge. It is a reminder that every culture, every empire, and every technological achievement ultimately begins from the same origin. Long before humanity built machines, it inherited stories, symbols, and the sacred act of creation.
As the opening work of my Cave Art series, Dune reflects a belief that runs throughout my artistic journey: while humanity has mastered extraordinary technologies, we have often drifted away from the deeper wisdom that once connected us to nature, community, and ourselves. Ancient cultures may have possessed fewer tools, but they often carried a richer understanding of balance, meaning, and belonging.
Dune is therefore not a painting about a film. It is a meditation on our own civilization—an invitation to look beyond the noise of modern progress and rediscover the enduring values that have always sustained humanity.
